New Zealand Drops Covid Requirements

Today we were very happy to read that New Zealand's Prime Minister announced the end to Covid-19 restrictions for travel and mandatory masks while in country. This announcement follows Australia's own announcement to end mask mandates on international flights, as it rolls back Covid restrictions.

“This will be the first summer in three years where there won’t be the question of what we will and what won’t be cancelled because of Covid cases” - PM Jacinda Ardern

New Zealand had instilled a "Protection Framework" which worked as a traffic light system.

It is also is no more.

What does that mean for travelers to New Zealand?

  • All mask wearing requirements removed (except in healthcare and aged care facilities)
  • If you test positive for Covid-19 the requirement is to isolate for seven days, but household contacts are no longer required to isolate
  • When flying into New Zealand vaccination requirements are no longer required and the requirement for inbound visitors to self-test on Day 01 and then again on Day 5/6 is now only "encouraged"
"Finally, rather than feeling that Covid dictates what happens to us, our lives, and our futures, we take back control." - PM Jacinda Arden
