New Zealand Requirements for Travel

As of today Australians can re-enter New Zealand! This is great news as we look forward to the borders finally re-opening on 1 May for those of us from North America eager to visit New Zealand.

We are also happy to see this morning that Air New Zealand has announced the country’s Covid-19 settings are being relaxed, and the airline will adjust some of its domestic and international travel requirements for customers:

  • From 14 April 2022, you will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination or negative test. Food & beverage services will also be re-introduced back on board flights.
  • From 1 May 2022, when North Americans are again allowed to fly into the country, there will be no requirement for vaccination status for international flights. Visitors will still need to meet the relevant Government entry requirements.

Note: Masks will still be required onboard domestic and international flights.

[Original Post from March 16, 2022]: Yesterday New Zealand announced that it has accelerated the timeframe which travelers from the USA/Canada can enter the country! Originally this was an October date, however with the rest of the world (read: Australia) opening up, New Zealand has re-evaluated its stance and pulled its own date to first July, and now May.

We couldn't be more excited! Here’s what you need to know before you start planning your next trip…

Each of these requirements will need to be met in advance:

1. Travel Declaration must be complete before you depart.

2. Pre-departure testing. Proof of a negative Covid-19 test prior to departure is needed. This can be a Rapid Antigen Test, LAMP or PCR test.

  • The(PCR) test administered no more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of your first
  • A Supervised rapid antigen test (RAT) or supervised loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) no more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure

3. Proof of vaccination

The above are in addition to the New Zealand eTA.
