World renowned angler and founder of Tongariro Lodge, Tony Hayes maintains a guiding team that is one of the most competent and experienced in New Zealand. Lodge guides provide guests access to over 30 rivers and 5 lakes. A good number of these rivers run through private land and special access has been acquired by the guiding team.
Tongariro Lodge guides provide trout fishermen with a variety of angling opportunities year round.
Stalk and delicately present a dry fly to trophy browns and rainbows in high country streams during the Summer months, upstream nymph fishing during the steelhead spawning runs, or casting to feeding rainbows in the shallow margins of Lake Taupo and nearby Lakes. Helicopter and raft fishing trips into remote mountain streams provides the chance to fly fish for the trophy of a lifetime. Lodge guides can teach eager learners the fine art of fly fishing from the beginning.
For the non-fishing companion, the Tongariro Lodge team arrange numerous other activities.
For the adventurous there is white water rafting on the Tongariro, scenic flights over volcanic craters and lakes, eco-tours, horse trekking through native forest, snow skiing, jet boating, hunting, tramping scenic walks and golf. There is a secluded spa pool and all weather tennis court on site.
