The Lodge At Paratiho Farms

Parahito Bedroom

The Lodge is set in a 2000 acre working farm with deer, sheep and cattle and opened in time for the new millennium of 2000. The Lodge was built by an American couple - Robert and Sally Hunt - who made New Zealand their full-time home in 1997.

Their vision of sharing an idyllic property in the lovely Nelson landscape has been realized in a form that celebrates comfort, seclusion, elegance and indulgence.

Ambiance: The simple focus is to provide the best of everything and offer a warmly personal experience. There are no formal dress requirements. The Lodge is a non-smoking residence and is unfortunately unsuitable for children unless the entire Lodge is booked by that guest.

Layout: The main Lodge contains the health and beauty spa, the library, lounge, dining room, breakfast room and kitchen.

Accommodation: Separate from the main lodge are six large private suites, two to a cottage. Each has a fireplace, bathroom with private garden, large dressing room, separate bedroom, lounge and terrace. The suites are well placed on the grounds to give guests the utmost privacy.

Cuisine: Each day a new menu is created for our guests using the best and freshest products Nelson, and New Zealand, can offer. Each course is matched with a different wine to enhance the flavor combination. We generally serve wines produced in Nelson -- Seifrieds, Glovers, Denton, Greenhough, Kahurangi, Tasman Bay and Neudorf, to name just some of the superb vineyards we have as neighbors.

Health and Beauty Spa: In keeping with the pampering theme, we have included an on-site spa, offering our guests a broad range of treatments designed to soothe and relax the mind and body, from facials, manicures and massage to hair styling, hydrotherapy treatments and body wraps.

All our treatments use the Phytomer range of products from France, which has a unique property in that it is the only marine based range of products available that freeze-dries the ingredients in a process that suspends their action until re-activated during treatments.

The Hydrotone hydrotherapy bath, capable of a number of beneficial underwater massage treatments, has 60 air and water jets, and is designed in specific program patterns to give maximum benefit from assisting stretching to relaxation, lower body workouts and toning.

To enhance the effect however, all hydrotherapy treatments can be combined with a Phytomer Thalassotherapy product. The term Thalassotherapy comes from two Greek words "thalassa" meaning the sea and "therapeia". Developed by the French, Thalassotherapy involves the simultaneous use of all the regulating elements of the marine environment (sea water, seaweed, sand and mud) for human well-being.

On-site Recreational Activities: Swimming pool; tennis court; golf putting green; petanque; croquet; a well equipped gym complete with a sanarium (a cross between a sauna and a steam room with less steam and heat but the same effect); farm and native bush walks.

Local Attractions: Beyond the farm gates are the fruits of the beautiful Nelson region. Not only is the produce of the land flavorsome and plentiful, but the area hosts the best brown trout fishing rivers in the world (and the Lodge is five minutesâ drive from one of them). Nearby is the renowned and stunning Abel Tasman National Park, as well as the galleries of one of the largest groups of artists and craftspeople in New Zealand. The Kahurangi National Park is very special for its unique geological and flora and fauna properties, and the extraordinary land formation of Farewell Spit is also an internationally recognized bird sanctuary.
