Best of New Zealand fly fishing - New Zealand travel experts

Owen River Lodge

Owen River Lodge opened in November of 2003, and quickly developed a reputation as one of New Zealand's finest specialist fly fishing lodges. It offers stylish, understated accommodation located right on the banks of the Owen River in the Murchison / Nelson Lakes region of the South Island. The lodge location provides our guests with panoramic views which are simply breath-taking, encompassing the Owen River, the beauty of Kahurangi national park and the majesty of Mount Owen. Owen River Lodge is 5 star rated and we strive to offer our guests the very best in service, accommodation, cuisine, outdoor adventure and, of course fly fishing !

To ensure your absolute privacy, guests are accommodated in one of six purpose built guest cottage suites which are located in the gardens, a short stroll from the main lodge. Each guest cottage suite is luxuriously appointed with reverse cycle air-conditioning, king sized beds, original fine art works and feature 100 year old recycled oregon beams and woodwork. Each guest cottage suite has its own veranda, allowing guests to sit outside and take in the stunning scenery, whilst listening to the sound of the river below.

The lodge is centrally located, with easy access to the Murchison, Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast fisheries. This unique location places us right in the middle of the best dry fly & nymph brown trout fishery in the world. Thus you can enjoy fly fishing on numerous blue-ribbon streams and rivers, with over 30 waters accessible by road (most within 1 hour's drive), and countless others by helicopter. We have been fortunate to have assembled one of the most experienced teams of fishing guides available in New Zealand. All our guides are kiwi locals and are members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association.

One of the highlights of your stay at Owen River Lodge will be the meals. New Zealand's unique cuisine has grown from a fusion of highly distinct cultures - Māori, Polynesian, Asian and every kind of European. The food at Owen River Lodge could best be described as stunning. We use the very best of fresh, locally sourced produce ( a great deal of which is grown in our own vegetable garden)and compliment this with some of New Zealand's best wines. Naturally, our tariff includes all meals and non-alcoholic beverages.

Apart from the fly fishing, the region offers an enormous array of things to do. We can arrange Wine Tasting, Horse Riding, Golf, Tennis/Squash, White Water Rafting/Canoeing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Skydiving, Gliding, Caving expeditions, retail therapy tours in Nelson, craft / art trail trekking or an in-house massage and facial.

Please come and enjoy the wonderful accommodation, stunning food, superb service and outstanding fishing that we offer.
