Kawhaka Lodge
|
Our association with Tony & Marj Allan and their South Island Fishing Tours (which specialized in South Island fishing tours for one or two people) goes back over twelve years. Recently, Marj and Tony purchased 30 acres on the West Coast and built a delightful, small (two guest rooms) fishing lodge. I have visited them twice and have watched (with beer in hand) the hard work they have put into creating this unique lodge and gardens. |
This spacious hideaway, Kawhaka Lodge, is nestled in the untouched Kawhaka Valley just inland from Hokitika on 30 acres with it's own stream winding around the boundary. The lodge is "log cabin" style, but more open and airy and much less rustic than "log cabin" suggests. |

With only two guest suites there is a feeling that you are someone special at someplace special. Each suite opens out to the verandah. A comforting log fire burning in the main living room and hot nibbles await your return from fishing, hiking or exploring the many wonders of the region. |
Home grown and fresh local cuisine are always on the menu. Tony is a well-known fly fishing guide with many years of experience and local knowledge, which he shares happily with enthusiasts. Heli-fishing from the property is easy and popular. Although Kawhaka Lodge is a wonderful getaway with a glacial view, swimming hole in the bush, wood pigeons and tuis ready to chat; civilisation is not far away. Marj and Tony look forward to sharing their piece of paradise with our clients. |
