As soon as one turns onto the property from the main road they are met with beautiful old trees and farm grass that announce the high country farm life. For over 150 years this family-run station has not only maintained itself as an active working farm, but has prospered by allowing guests to immerse themselves in a bit of authentic station life. A stay at Nokomai is truly a unique experience. Anglers receive the opportunity to fish great rivers in the area like the Mataura, which winds its way through the property, while those who do not fish gain an opportunity to experience a wide range of activities in a beautiful South Island setting.

Activities on property allow guests to truly enjoy the beauty of the South Island outside the busieness of larger cities and towns. Hiking trails range from the quick to full-day treks across the property and mountain bikes are also available. As a working farm Nokomai also offers guided tours of the property- an educational and informative experience that allows a look into a small piece of true authentic Kiwi life in the South Island.

Four separate farm cottages comprise the accommodations at Nokomai- available in one and two bedroom configurations for small groups and families. All rooms will have "super king" beds (which can split into two single beds) or king beds, small kitchenette area with the expected tea/coffee setup, bathroom and living area.

The cottages sit across the path from a beautiful, newly built, main lodge area (completed 2017) which is perfect for relaxing and enjoying drinks after coming off of the water in the afternoon. Large windows in the sitting area allow open views of the property as the sun sets on the hillside golds and yellows of the grass.

A quaint and historic small stone homestead, which harks back to the late 19th century, remains next to the new main lodge. This building was restored in 2000 and remains one of the more cozy places in the country to have a fine meal with the other guests. The large table, stone walls and low ceilings really make one feel as if they are stepping back in time.

Nokomai has 20km of the Mataura River on which to fish. This river is renown for not only the number of trout but for its crystal clear water-  providing great opportunities for sight fishing. For those who may require more assistance accessing water, many of the river banks in the area are easy to access and are on level terrain.
