New Zealand's only Orvis Endorsed Lodge Fiordland Lodge is set in a World Heritage Area and offers an incomparable fly fishing experience. Combining comfort and privacy the Lodge is located on the outskirts of Te Anau with amazing views out over Lake Te Anau and the surrounding mountains of the Fiordland National Park.
Fiordland Lodge is also the perfect base from where to explore Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound and all excursions and activities can be arranged directly from the Lodge itself.
The Lodge was constructed in 2002 and sits on a superb rural site with rolling grasslands, inside the open architecture of the Lodge reflects the vastness of the Fiordland National Park and echoes of the forest are found in the striking natural timber construction. In the lounge, a lattice work of huge log trusses soar to over thirty-six feet above and surround a large open fire, clad with local river stone.
The Lodge is home to Fiordland Guides, a professional experienced guiding service focusing on fly fishing but also offering, bird watching, nature walking and guided history and hiking days.
Fiordland is known as the 'walking capital of the world' with over 300 miles of trails through virgin forest and awe inspiring mountains. Lodge guests can elect to walk the world famous Milford, Routeburn and Hollyford Tracks and the Kepler track is directly opposite the Lodge itself.
Options for non-fishing partners and for days apart from fishing in this area are absolutely endless. Fiordland, on New Zealand's south west corner, has long been recognised as one of the great eco-heritage areas of the world. From Fiordland Lodge we can organise a variety of activities from guided walking, tramping, heli-hiking, kayaking, sightseeing trips, guided bird watching, horse riding, and private farm tours to jet boat rides deep into the heart of the National park are only but a few activities that can be organised direct from the Lodge itself.
The Lodge offers ten double guest rooms furnished with king-size beds and fully appointed bathrooms. The Lodge has massive features throughout and a massive river stone fireplace in the lounge creates a warm spacious environment to mingle and discuss the day's activities with other guests. A commanding staircase leads to a mezzanine floor with a quiet library and fly tying bench.
Private and serene, the Lodge is a perfect hideaway for relaxation, or as a base for your Fiordland experience. Fiordland is world renowned for the quality of its fly fishing. The crystal clear unpolluted waters are managed as a wild fishery and produce good stocks of large Brown and Rainbow Trout.
Heli Fishing from Fiordland Lodge is an option and offers you the chance to experience true wilderness fishing amidst some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. We can cater from 1-6 anglers with heli-fishing and all heli-fishing is carefully planned with our head guide and owner of Fiordland Lodge Ron Peacock who has an unrivalled knowledge of the National Park. Ron will take you to remote locations and having worked as a department of conservation ranger for 19 years in the Fiordland National Park, and also a search and rescue advisor for the New Zealand Police for the area Ron knows all the untouched special spots and wilderness streams in the area.
